A DEEP SENSE OF FAMILY

Three siblings go to the Oaks and experience a new camp family together and with their neighbors

A CAMP FAMILY:

Carlos, Angelica, and Saul have called the Garnet neighborhood home for most of their lives.  As these three siblings started attending Solidarity's Teen Center and Merge youth church, they quickly became an influential part of the community. Their joy, positivity, and willingness to lead at every given opportunity was contagious. In 2016, the three siblings attended the Oaks Winter Camp together and, for the first time, experienced the truth and love of Jesus as a family. The most meaningful part for them was that it was not simply an individual experience, but one that grew them closer as brothers and sister. The Oaks was a perfect place for them to connect with other students from Garnet and Maple neighborhoods through adventure and risk, tying them to a new family.

Because of the Oaks, all three siblings committed to being a part of the IMPACT leadership development program. They receive weekly mentoring and discipleship centered around growing their leadership and faith. Even though camp was just one weekend, the experience created a lasting effect for their family and community.

THE OAKS:

For over a decade The Oaks camp has been a special place for the teenagers growing up in the Garnet and Maple neighborhoods.  This camp is located in the mountains Just North of Los Angeles and every year our students get the rare opportunity to get away from the noise and drama of the neighborhood and experience the stillness, of God’s creation. While at camp students are challenged to take risks through fun adventure activities and challenged in their faith through teaching and group discussion times.  Solidarity strategically uses this camp as the starting point for involvement in our Impact Leadership Development program. With the invitation going out to any teen in the neighborhoods many students hear about Jesus in a real way for the first time and are then given simple opportunities to get plugged into community and discipleship upon returning home.

HOW TO SPONSOR A CAMPER:

We want to send 100 individuals to camp.  It costs about $150 per camper.  Would you be willing to sponsor just one day of camp ($50), or a camper for the entire weekend ($150), or even a cabin of six campers ($900).  Each and every donation helps.
